Course Objectives Students will be able to define health determinants, health indicators in order to assess health status and risks at community level, to explain the concepts in health services, to explain the structure of Turkey health system and the health services given at primary care to describe the components of the ecosystem and its impact on human health, to explain the history medical profession and its values and responsibilities.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • 1- To define disease and health according biopsychosocial perspectives.
  • 2- List the factors such as genetic, nutritional, environmental, occupational, psychological, social, cultural, educational, economical and life style factors affecting health.
  • 3- Explain the determinants of health and their effects on health
  • 4- Explain health indicators (morbidity, mortality, burden of disease).
  • 5- List the leading causes of death and diseases at national and global level.
  • 6- Explain the primary, secondary and tertiary level preventions, primary health care, classify health services.
  • 7- Explain the importance and characteristics of primary health care.
  • 8- Explain the history of Turkish health system.
  • 9- Explain the health services are given in primary health care settings (Family health center, community health center) in Turkey.
  • 10- Explain the organization and financing characteristics of Turkey health system.
  • 11- Describe the relation between medicine and other disciplines.
  • 12- Describe the historical development of medicine.
  • 13- Explain the values and responsibilities of medical profession.
  • 14- Define universal ethical principles / values (justice and equality, integrity, honesty and reliability, responsibility, respect for differences, helpfulness and care, citizenship) in the historical context.
Course Description In this course, factors affecting human health, health determinants, the structure of Turkey health System and introduction to medical professionalism will be addressed.
